Alison Woods
Chicago native Alison Woods has been telling stories since she was 9. All of her stories were based on real-life events. Growing up on the Southside she would entertain her neighbors with stories about things that happened to her: walking into Cassius Clay (before he became Muhammad Ali) as she was rushing to get home from the library; babysitting for neighbors, family friends and even Ernie Banks; working for her father at Scotty’s Cleaners; adventures on the CTA buses… She had a knack for telling stories; she was engaging and kept people smiling.
Alison was a reluctant author. She wrote My Name is Kayla after looking for a series that featured an African American little girl as the main character - doing normal, everyday things. She didn’t find one and decided to write one – the Kayla Kay series. My Name is Kayla is the first book in the series. She has written several more KaylaKay books, a series for boys – the KareemJay Books, and a series for twins. Alison lives in Irving, Texas with her husband. They visit their 3 children and 7 grandchildren in New Orleans, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dallas and Rivercrest, California. Learn more about Alison on her personal website. |
