Chicago native Alison Woods  was a reluctant author. She wrote My Name is Kayla after looking for a series that featured an African American little girl as the main character - doing normal, everyday things. She didn’t find one and decided to write one – the Kayla Kay series. My Name is Kayla is the first book in the series. She has written several more KaylaKay books, a series for boys – the KareemJay Books, and a series for twins.

Alison lives in Irving, Texas with her husband. They visit their 3 children and 7 grandchildren in New Orleans, Philadelphia, Charlotte, Dallas and Rivercrest, California.
